My bugs are not factual representations of beetles. I always start by looking at nature, because nature is awesome! I am always mesmerized by colors and patterns found in the wild. It's so inspiring. This beetle reminds me of a cicada. Looking at it brings me back to a time when I would just sit and listen. Some summer nights, it was so loud that it was hard to sleep!
This bug sculpture is Raku fired. It is a wild process involving fire and smoke. The work comes out just as wild as the process! It is a living finish that can change with time and exposure to UV light.
